Happy Birthday, Notes*

Friends, Family, Followers, and the like,

I sat down this evening to write a post reflecting on the last year. Wednesday, Dec. 6 marks the one-year anniversary of the official launch of Notes From My Phone*. Tuesday, Dec. 12 marks my 29th birthday and the beginning of the end of my 20s. And Sunday, Dec. 31 marks the end of a not-so-easily described year for me personally as well as for our culture and world.

It’s times like this that I remember that writing–and I mean writing well–is it’s own beast. That is to say sometimes it flows easily like wine into an empty glass, but other times it is a painful, stop-start, doubt-every-word kind of process. I’m neither drinking wine nor able to overcome the latter, so I’ve put the deeper reflection off for a bit longer.

It’ll keep.

In the meantime, I invite you who have supported me and the Notes From My Phone* to join me as I celebrate a successful year of readings, speaking engagements, and sharing of my life with strangers in a most-humbling way. I know I throw around the words “thank you” a lot–both in my writing and at public events–but I truly mean it: thank you. Each one of you. Without your support, encouragement, and book-purchasing, this last year would have been very different indeed.

The entire process of the discovering, editing, and publishing Notes From My Phone* has been a humbling, often terrifying, and exhausting experience. And yet, it has shaped and changed and challenged me in beautiful, undeniable ways.

What’s been most transformative this year has been the connection people have found with the book that was never intentional, although maybe hoped for in hindsight.

As I mark the one-year anniversary this week, I thought it would be fun to have you share your own experience with Notes in one of three ways.

For those of you who have read, or are thinking about reading Notes From My Phone*, I invite you to participate in a little social media campaign I’m going to feature on my accounts this week–but especially Wednesday, Dec. 6.

You can do one (or all!) of the following and tag me in your post so I can share/retweet your post:

  1. Share your favorite entry/page via Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and use #NotesFromMyPhone to help us keep these all in one place.
  2. Using #NotesFromMyPhone, share one of the notes from your phone that’s an unedited view into your life.
  3. Throughout the week, I’ll be posting an entry from the book you can use as a writing prompt. If you want to share it, you can use #NotesFromMyPhone along with the specific hashtag for each prompt.

And, since it’s gift-giving season, each post enters you into a drawing for a free copy of Notes From My Phone*. The winner will be selected at the end of the week at random from tagged posts at the end of the week. Want to be sure I saw it? Use #NotesFromMyPhone and tag me on Facebook (/michellejunotwriter), Twitter (@michellejunot), or Instagram (@mjunot).

If you’re feeling especially excited about Notes this week, consider writing a review on Amazon or Goodreads. This may not seem like a big deal, but in book world, it’s simply huge.

As always, your support is so so appreciated. This has been…well…a year. It’s a been a year. I cannot do any of this without any of you, and so thank you for letting me pursue this thing I call writing.

More to come soon (including words about brand new projects for the new year).

Michelle
